61 years after World War Ⅱ
There held memorial ceremonies for the war dead around the nation today, marking the 61st anniversary of Japan's World War Ⅱ surrender. As he pledged when he took office, Prime Minister Koizumi officially visited Yasukuni Shrine today on August 15, as is reported in detail in the article. As the article says, he is condemned for his visit by the political leaders of Asian countries, particularly by the Chinese and South Korean Presidents.
As he often explained that it was his mental issue to visit the shrine, it must be true how deeply he mourned for the war dead. I think, however, he should make a clear distinction between personal and official issues... Sometimes he may have to put aside his personal issues as a nation's prime minister, giving primary consideration to foreign affairs.
Meanwhile, how they can separate the Class A criminals from the rest of those enshrined in Yasukuni... The present issue will not be that simple, but if the Class A criminals are to be separately enshirined, the visit of Prime Minister to Yasukuni won't cause such a problem...
